How To Properly Clean Your Home Windows
With summer in full swing, you’ve probably seen your neighbors outside hosing down their vinyl siding and wiping down their windows. It’s always such a rewarding feeling knowing that your home’s exterior has been stripped of the dirt and debris from this past winter. If you’re in the mood to get some serious cleaning done for your home’s exterior, the best place to start is with your windows.
Our window installation and window replacement specialists in New Hampshire are here to teach you how to clean your windows like a professional so you and your family can bask in some better lighting once you head indoors. Before we delve into the cleaning part, here’s a list of tools you’ll need to purchase:
- Strip applicator with cloth head
- Squeegee
- Chamois
- Bucket of warm water
- Dishwashing liquid
How to Professionally Wash Your Home Windows
- After ensuring the window is closed and locked tight, apply warm soapy water to the surface using the strip applicator tool with the cloth head.
- Use the cloth head to remove dirt and excess water from the window. Feel free to make a couple passes over the window to ensure all dirt has been loosened and removed.
- Using the squeegee, start from the top left corner of the window and trace down the window using an S-pattern. At the end of each S stroke, wipe the squeegee clean and start again until all the soapy water has been removed from the window’s surface.
- There will most likely be some remaining water on the edges of the window near the window frames. To remove this, use a dry chamois to soak up remaining water. The chamois won’t leave those unsightly streaks that cotton fiber tends to do.
- Now take a step back to admire your professional cleaning job. Well done! Only a couple dozen or so windows to go.
